(21 jul. 1899, Garrettsville, Ohio, EE.UU.–27 abr. 1932, mar Caribe).

Poeta estadounidense. Se desempeñó en una variedad de oficios antes de establecerse en Nueva York. White Buildings [Edificios blancos] (1926), su primer libro, contiene el poema en tres partes For the Marriage of Faustus and Helen [Para el matrimonio de Fausto y Helena]. Su deseo de contrarrestar el pesimismo cultural que impuso La tierra baldía de T.S. Eliot dio origen a su largo y complejo poema El puente (1930), en el que Crane intenta crear el gran poema épico de la experiencia estadounidense y celebra con intensidad visionaria la riqueza de la vida moderna. Alcohólico y abatido por los problemas que le ocasionaba su condición homosexual, se suicidó a los 32 años arrojándose por la borda de un barco que navegaba por el Caribe.
